COU Terminal Project Timeline

This page shows a general timeline of the process to construct a new terminal at Columbia Regional Airport. A green box and paper airplane indicates completed step. A purple box and paper airplane indicates the step is in progress.  A blue box and paper airplane indicates future steps. Future event dates are only timeline place holders and do not represent an actual start/completion date. The timeline will be updated and future events will be updated with actual dates as they are known.

    Project begins 2, 2015

    March 2, 2015 - Columbia City Council Authorizes Parsons Brinkerhoff (WSP) to Develop Terminal Area Master Plan

    On March 2, 2015, the Columbia City Council approved council bill B45-15, a contract with Parsons Brinkerhoff to develop a Terminal Area Master Plan (T.A.M.P.), Stormwater Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) update.

    Task Completed 15, 2016

    February 15, 2016 - Parsons Brinkerhoff (WSP) Provides Update to Council and Airport Advisory Board

    At the February 15, 2016, Columbia City Council Work Session, Parsons Brinkerhoff provided a status update on the report titled, “Terminal Area Master Plan City Council Briefing.”

    May 2, 2016 - Parsons Brinkerhoff (WSP) Presents Update and Recommended Terminal Location

    On May 2, 2016 Parson’s Brinkerhoff presented the City Council with the Columbia Regional Airport Terminal Master Plan update; and recommended Alternative 2.  The final report from the consultant is expected to be released in the summer 2016.

    October 2, 2017 - Terminal Area Master Plan Report Submitted

    In October of 2017, WSP presented the Terminal Area Master Plan (TAMP) to the City of Columbia.     December 18, 2017 - City Council Approves “Expedited” Terminal Location

    The Columbia City Council discussed Resolution R186-17 at the regularly scheduled council meeting on December 18. Council approved unanimously the resolution and instructed staff to proceed with the “expedited”  terminal location, just to the south of the current terminal.     September 17, 2018 - City Council Authorizes Airport Aid Agreement with MoDOT to complete the Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan

    The City Council authorized an airport aid agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for completion of master plan and airport layout plan updates for the Columbia Regional Airport. B238-18

    December 17, 2018 - City Council Authorizes Design Build Method for the New Terminal

    Columbia City Council provides direction to staff to proceed with the Design/Build method for the new terminal.

    April 4, 2019 - Submission of Supplemental Terminal Area Master Plan (STAMP) Documents

    In early spring, the final Supplemental Terminal Area Master Plan (STAMP) documents were submitted to the FAA for review and approval. We are currently awaiting for the FAA’s response.  Details will be posted here as they become available.

    April 15, 2019 - City Council Authorizes Contract with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. to complete a CATEX

    Authorizing a state aviation trust fund project consultant agreement with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. to complete a Documented Categorical Exclusion (CATEX) checklist relating to the proposed new terminal site at the Columbia Regional Airport.     May 1, 2019 - Late Spring 2019 – Owners Representative Contract and Geotech/Surveying to Begin

    The City Council is will consider and award a contract to the Owners Representative who will oversee the Terminal Project on behalf of the city.
